Focus means saying no

It’s easy to get distracted from what you are trying to do. There are lots of valuable and worthy things to contribute time to, but if you keep saying yes you end up pulled into lots of projects and committing to none. I’ve been intentionally revisiting what I’m committing to, and trying to match it up against some clear priorities, both personal and work, and then mapping existing activities against those priorities. That’s thrown up a few interesting questions about some existing commitments. It’s a good analysis to do, whether for your business or your personal life. We have a broad vision in Seven Men, but are clear in how we want to see our contribution to that, and that helps us work out what to say yes and what to say no to. It doesn’t make it any easier to say no to someone though, or to leave a good thing you have been involved with!
